Cultures of trust

By Becky Booth, Programmes Director, Spice

For the last ten years, I have been involved in projects designed to build stronger communities. At Spice we have been committed to offering valuable credits and experiences for people of all different backgrounds, in exchange for working to improve their community - both their volunteering, and the rewards which motivate them, help people develop strong relationships with one another.

The most meaningful projects have been those that have brought together a diverse group of people of different ages and different experiences. In all projects the success has been highly dependent on fostering a culture of trust between individuals and between individuals and organisations. This collaboration is critical both to building stronger communities and delivering effective services.

This timely commission provides an excellent opportunity to explore the issues behind the decline in trust, and focus on new opportunities to build social connection.
