Tony is a published author and education commentator, a former teacher and University lecturer at the University of Leeds, Tony currently works as an education consultant for the University of Reading. Tony is currently CEO of Generating Genius, a charity that has a demonstrable track record of successfully supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into top universities.He is also chair of the STEM Academy Trust, which has opened a new free school in Tech city.
The project, which won first prize at Social Innovation Camp in 2009, has been cited by leading think tanks as an example of innovation in the social sector and has recently been funded by the NHS.
Tony has published widely on issues related to race, social justice and emotional and behaviourally difficult children. He also has experience in the media, writing for Voice, Guardian and The New Statesman and regularly speaking on radio and television on subjects linked to education and the arts. He has a strong interest in diversity and has conducted research and published extensively on race and education.
Tony was Chair of the Mayor’s Education Inquiry, which ran from December 2011 until the end of September 2012 and explored the critical challenges facing London’s primary and secondary schools. He was recently voted by the Evening Standard as one of the 1000 most influential people in London. </p
