Eight independent Commissioners have been selected to shape the thinking around the issues the Commission will explore and produce practical and insightful recommendations. 


Each Commissioner brings a wealth of experience from their respective fields which include academia, business, education, politics and the public sector.

Trevor Phillips OBE, former Chair of Equalities and Human Rights Commission

 

Trevor Phillips is a writer and television producer. He is the former chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission and was previously the Chair of the Commission for Racial Equality and the elected Chair of the Greater London Authority. 

Trevor joined London Weekend Television as a researcher and later became Head of Current Affairs before leaving to found Pepper Productions. He was a weekly columnist for the Independent and has presented several series for BBC's Radio 4, including the long-running science series The Material World. 

Trevor is an Associate of the non-partisan UK think tank Demos, a Fellow of the Migration Policy Institute (Washington DC) and a Director of the New York-based Centre for Talent Innovation. He is currently the Deputy Chair of the Steering Committee of the National Equality Standard, and acts as an advisor to several companies and not-for-profit bodies.
