Eight independent Commissioners have been selected to shape the thinking around the issues the Commission will explore and produce practical and insightful recommendations. 

Each Commissioner brings a wealth of experience from their respective fields which include academia, business, education, politics and the public sector.

Christine McGourty, Corporate Affairs Director, British Gas


Christine McGourty is Corporate Affairs Director at British Gas, having joined in 2013 to lead the company's media, public affairs and corporate social responsibility activities.

She previously worked at the energy trade association Energy UK, where she was Director of Communications and Public Affairs for four years, working across a wide range of issues in the sector. She moved into the energy industry after working as the Science Correspondent for the BBC for 14 years, where she travelled far and wide for the news bulletins, reporting on climate change in the Antarctic and space missions from NASA.

Prior to this, Christine was Technology Correspondent at the Daily Telegraph and News Correspondent (based in London, and Washington DC) for the international science journal Nature.
